• Here are some phrases we hear around election time.
  Discuss them, and then use them in your writing.

  citizen rights & responsibilities	electoral vote	term limits

• Think, then write your thoughts and opinions on the following:

  • Voting: Is it a right or a responsibility for U.S. citizens?

  • A popular bumper sticker reads: DEMOCRACY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT. Explain what you think this means.

  • Why don't people vote?

  • What can be done to encourage more registered voters to vote?

  • Should a law be passed that forces people to vote?

• Prepare a report on one of the candidates in the upcoming election. Read and include:
  • Five newspaper, magazine, or internet articles (at least one of each)
  • At least two advertisements
  • Some relevant pictures
  • A one-page report that includes your candidate's views on several major campaign issues.
